This may not be a slam dunk case, but a Peterborough, Ontario, woman named Anne Langdon is demanding $25,000 in damages from her neighbor because she alleges the woman’s 17-year-old son plays basketball too frequently and too loudly on the driveway, reports torontosun.com.

Langdon’s lawyers state in a letter that there is evidence that links environmental noise to cardiovascular disease, and the noise from the basketball could therefore be dangerous to her health.  She is also complaining about a wooden panel that was put up by her neighbors to protect her window from being damaged by an errant basketball.  Langdon says the panel blocks the sunlight from her apartment.

Anne Elliott, the mother of the teen, received the letter from Langdon’s lawyers last Friday.  The letter from Iler Campbell LLP Barristers and Solicitors in Toronto reads, “My client demands payment of $25,000 within 10 days of receipt of this letter for damages she has experienced, otherwise we may take legal action against you without further notice.” The lawyers claim the $25,000 will compensate Langdon for the ongoing disruption of the enjoyment of her home, damage to her health, and the loss of light in her home.
